Video Review: Fiskars Momentum Reel Mower

I was hesitant at first, but my wife convinced me to ditch the gas mower and go man-powered. After all, part of our mission out here is to integrate as many aspects of simple, sustainable living as possible. I was about to settle for a lesser Scotts model since the Fiskars was in short supply around these parts. But a trip into one of Austin’s Lowe’s stores paid off and now we’re the proud owner of the Fiskars Momentum Reel Mower. After about 15 minutes of setup time, this solid piece of machinery was ready to do some slicing and I was happy to oblige.

To be honest I had no idea what to expect from a reel mower but I’m happy to say that it was a total pleasure to use. I still need to take it out a few more times before giving a definitive thumbs up, but my initial impression is that the Fiskars Momentum is certainly worth it’s $199.99 price tag. So check out the video and judge for yourself and keep in mind that this video was shot entirely on the fly using my iPhone so it isn’t of the highest quality, but future videos will be filmed with a real video camera and may even be scripted, so it will only get better from here.

  1. Very cool! Got me interested.

I’m currently using an electric black and decker mower and have been pleased. I love not having to mess with gas/oil.

I usually just mulch and put my clippings back into the yard anyway, so this might be the best solution, no extension cable! LOL

    • Hey Dustin! Yeah, this is totally worth the purchase. Quiet, easy to maintain, and a bit relaxing if you ask me. Feels good knowing there’s one less mower out there consuming resources and stinkin’ up the joint.

  2. There you go, making our lawn look bad over here. Apparently, moving across the country didn’t put a stop to that little issue! By the way, the reel mower was probably a smart move. Did you know that the newish gas powered one you willed to the owner of your old house is belching it’s way to an early demise?

  3. Hi Jason,

Are you still liking your Fiskars?

I’ve been doing some reading/research and one complaint from people was that because of the sides, it didn’t seem to cut as wide as it says?? Did you find that at all?

Do you think its worth the extra price tag?

    • Still totally happy with my Fiskars mower. The only time the sides will impact the width listed in the specs is if you’re mowing up against a wall. Even in that situation it’s not like the amount that sticks out on the side is going to have a significant impact on the time you spend mowing. Seems to be a pretty trivial complaint in my opinion. And yes, it was definitely worth the price!
