*Warning – the tantra chair website contains video and images not safe for work or kids (video and position guide links). It’s tasteful stuff like what you might find in The Joy of Sex, but nonetheless make sure you’re in an adult-friendly environment before viewing.
The 70″ long and 70 pound Tantra Chair from Zen by Design, has been around for 4 or 5 years and over that time there has been one change in their chair worth mentioning…but I’ll get to that in just a bit. The chair is designed to enhance certain sexual positions, in particular those associated with the Kama Sutra. It’s covered in UltraLeather, which is a synthetic leather that’s stain free and stain resistant, anti-microbial and easy to clean with soap and water – naturally, these are qualities you’d want in a chair made for hot, sticky sex. And it’s a “green” material no less, so it should ease all your animal and environmental concerns as well. Now, to the point I made earlier, when this chair first came out I loved it’s shape – sex chair or not, this was a fine looking piece of furniture. What made it so appealing to me initially was how much raw wood was showing. Just take a look at the pic to the right to see what I mean. They let you choose from a variety of materials to cover the padding on top which, if I had to guess is why they introduced the new UltraLeather version. I have doubts that the cloth material was sex -friendly. The newer Signature Series is still appealing but I’m a wood guy – and let’s face it, wood is sexy. That’s what has drawn me to the Craftsman and Japanese styles from the beginning. Covering the wood and adding the tack trim gives it more of an executive chair sort of vibe, which kills some of that sex appeal. I don’t know if they still offer the “stripped” version but if not I think they should reconsider, because nothing screams kama sutra more than raw wood.
Finally, I should mention that although this chair was designed with hot sex lovemaking in mind, it can also serve as an excellent yoga chair or even an everyday living kind of chair. Just don’t tell your mom and pops where you bought it. So what does this curvy chair run? How about $1200 bucks? May sound pricey but if makin’ whoopee becomes a regular event because of it, then I’d say those costs will be recouped in no time.
Should you choose to purchase a Tantra Chair, “a portion of the proceeds will be donated to various non-profit organizations that contribute to restoring the natural resources of the planet such as reforestation.” Oh, and according to their testimonials page, this is Discovery channel’s favorite chair. All I can say to that is, “Wow.”
Zen by Design has a number of other meditation chairs for sale on their site that are worth a look or a buy so get on over there before you miss out!
