Craftsman House Plan Lovely on the Outside, Crazy on the Inside

February 27, 2009 |  by Jason  |  House Plans  |  No Comments

Craftsman HomeDesigns for Living has done it again. Another Craftsman style home that looks great on the outside but misses the mark on it’s interior floor plan. This 2,300+ square foot home has an upstairs full of odd angles and a layout that would make furniture placement a nightmare (see master bedroom for example). I consider it a bad sign if I  find myself trying to figure out a floor plan, which is exactly what I had to do. Just too crazy for my blood.

The main floor really isn’t that bad, but I think having the master bedroom downstairs with room #2 and 3 upstairs is a much smarter layout. The current setup wouldn’t work well for a young family of four since one of the kids would be downstairs on their own.

This is all quite a shame because I really like the exterior – the columns, the eave overhangs, and the two upstairs balconies. Good stuff. I’d just have to get an architect to gut the inside before moving on this one. My search for the perfect house continues…

Altamonte Craftsman House Plan Simple & Sweet

February 19, 2009 |  by Jason  |  House Plans  |  No Comments

altamonte 300x210 Altamonte Craftsman House Plan Simple & SweetThe Altamonte is part of the Frank Betz house plan collection. At just over 2,600 square feet it’s the perfect size home for a family of four and offers many architectural details worth noting such as the vaulted family room, tray ceiling in the master suite, decorative columns flanking the entrance to the dining room and a large kitchen pantry.

The exterior of this home represents what I would consider to be classic Craftsman qualities. Tapered columns and window grids in the upper sash. Nothing fancy here by any means. There are a number of other Craftsman house plans that rank higher on my list, but there is something to be said for simple and straightforward. With the right touches on the interior (those things you don’t see on a floor plan) this house could be pretty sweet.

Oh, and if I were building this home I might even leave the exterior color as-is. I actually find the muted, earthy tones rather pleasing. But that’s me. Take a glance at the floor plan below. I think the upstairs could use some decorative flair but that’s being a bit picky.

Anyone Care for a Million Dollar Craftsman Log Cabin?

Craftsman Log CabinIf you have $800,000 to 1 million to burn, this Upland Retreat Craftsman log cabin just might be your golden ticket.
Precision Craft Log and Timber Homes offer a number of very high end turnkey houses as well as fully customized homes tailored to your every want and need.
This home in particular has a spacious, open floor plan and the exterior is ridiculously cool. Looks more like a place you’d pay to visit rather than somewhere you’d pay to live…that’s how nice it is.
Regardless, Precision Craft log homes are some of the finest I’ve seen and seem to support the notion that you get what you pay for. And considering the cost, this will have to be my retirement home…when I’m 95 years old.
